HEALTHY EATING
Watch the number of calories you eat. Too many is too much - too little is not enough. It is important to balance your calorie intake with your calorie expenditure - that is, don’t eat more food than your body burns. To have a better idea of what those numbers may be figure out you BMI (Body Mass Index) and calculate your calorie intake from there.
- Make sure you eat a wide variety of foods. Try new foods - take this opportunity to expand your range of choices by eating different vegetables, whole grains, and fruits that you normally don’t eat.
- When eating high-calorie foods keep your portions moderate. This isn’t a case of getting your money’s worth (particularly in restaurants) - this is a case of taking care of your health.
- Enjoy fruits, vegetables, grains, and legumes - foods high in complex carbohydrates, fiber, vitamins, and minerals, low in fat, and free of cholesterol.
- A vital part of a healthy diet is to drink lots of water. Water helps flush our systems, especially the kidneys and bladder, of waste products and toxins.
- Reduce refined-grain products, sugary foods, and salt.
- Enjoy your favorite sweets and fried foods occasionally and in moderation.
- A healthy diet improves your energy and reduces your risk of many diseases.
