Getting Fit with Carole Carson

HAVE YOU FORGOTTEN HOW GOOD YOU CAN FEEL?
Do you wake up tired? Stiff? Do your joints ache? Is your outlook bleak? Do you run out of steam before the day is over? Do you believe these conditions are inevitable because you’ve lived a few decades?

I did, and I am happy to report that most of what I considered the result of aging was nothing of the sort. Instead, I was suffering from surplus body fat and sustained inactivity. If the refrigerator hadn’t been 20 feet from the sofa, I wouldn’t have gotten any exercise at all.

Once I lost 62 pounds, I recovered the energy and enthusiasm of my youth, along with the stamina and flexibility of my high-school basketball days.

In his book, Younger Next Year, Dr. Henry Lodge points out the common mistake many of us make in our thinking. He asserts that if we are willing to exercise regularly and eat on the slim side, even though the clock is ticking away, we can perform both physically and mentally into our 90s. Readers—impressed with the idea of reversing aging—have begun following the advice. Their excited stories and results are posted on Dr. Lodge’s Web site.

You simply can’t read the stories without wanting to jump up and join the individuals in their successful effort to reclaim their youthful vitality. When your spirit needs a lift, read a story or two. That’s what I do now that I’m moving again.

There are so many things we can do that are fun. All we need to do is take a look around.
