FITNESS OVER FIFTY

For individuals over the age of 50, exercise helps to reduce and slow down the onset of age related health problems.

Exercise also assists in slowing down natural changes that occur as we age, and that affect our strength, endurance, and balance.

When building a program that incorporates all components of a balanced fitness program one needs to include: strengthening exercises, balance exercises, endurance exercises, and flexibility exercises.

Prior to exercising it would be wise to consult a physician to obtain a clean bill of health. As well you can either consult an expert for help in developing a well-rounded fitness program or obtain information from fitness books or surfing online.

It is important to understand that at whatever age you are positive gains can be made in each area, including new muscle mass.

So remember start your new program slowly. Work and progress at a pace that is comfortable for you. Keeping in mind that low-impact activity is important to protect your joints.
