Break Through To Yes
Over the past couple of days I have been reading an incredible book called “Break Through To Yes” written by David Savage. What I’m finding so impressive in this book is the opportunity that lies before all of us, within all of our relationships, to find solutions that will work for everyone.
OK so it’s not always easy, but it’s always doable and with compromise no one ever really ends up happy, so the key is to collaborate.
Below is a general definition on collaboration as defined in Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Collaboration is the process of two or more people or organizations working together to realize shared goals. Collaboration is very similar to cooperation, and both are an opposite of competition. Most collaboration requires leadership, although the form of leadership can be social within a decentralized and egalitarian group. Teams that work collaboratively can obtain greater resources, recognition and reward when facing competition for finite resources.
Structured methods of collaboration encourage introspection of behavior and communication. These methods specifically aim to increase the success of teams as they engage in collaborative problem solving. Forms, rubrics, charts and graphs are useful in these situations to objectively document personal traits with the goal of improving performance in current and future projects. Collaboration is also present in opposing goals exhibiting the notion of adversarial collaboration, though this is not a common case for using the word.
In the book David expands why collaboration is so important to our world, our nations, our communities, our organizations and our families, and how with a little proper education we just might be able to put a halt to the conflict, misunderstanding and misalignment that is affecting us all.
