Every year, millions of people over 65 fall. In fact, one out of every three people over 65 falls will fall throughout the year. But most never report it. Why – embarrassed, ego centric, or simply blow it off as no big deal. BUT once you have fallen – it actually doubles your chances of falling again.
Now it doesn’t have to be that way – yes the video that got you to come here is meant to be funny – BUT – it’s serious at the same time.
So why do I take this type of approach? You all know all the answers, so it’s like I’m preaching to the choir – BUT – there is a difference. Most of you intellectually get it – BUT – very few of you are taking action on a daily basis to “ADD IN” what you need to stay healthy and increase your longevity and wellbeing!
That’s the hardest part about being Mr. Second Fifty. How do I get people to take action for THEIR BEST INTERESTS?
I can’t – I can suggest – BUT – only you can take the action.
AND it’s not going to get easier to take action the older you get. It’s going to reach a point of “What’s the use?”
And that ain’t cool – you don’t deserve this – you deserve to live a vibrant, and rewarding second fifty! AND that doesn’t include hospital waiting rooms like my parents and I’m sure many of your parents went through.
So what do you need to do?
In simple terms – MOVE!
In a little more complicated terms. Do exercises that increase your agility, strengthen your legs and improve your balance. Two get exercises that come to mind are Tai Chi and Yoga. And they even have a secondary benefit if you go to group sessions. “SOCIALIZING!”
So intellectualize that for a bit, and then get out of that chair or off of that couch and make something happen! Something that will benefit you and reduce the amount of caring you require in late 80’s, 90’s and as you crest into the world of a centenarian!
